Hi! My name is Joseph Ritter, Cybersecurity student at Old Dominion University. Born and raised in Newport News, VA, computers have been a part of my life from a very young age. I was introduced to video games by my parents very young, with some of my earliest memories being playing our N64 at around 3 years old. This would only continue as I grew older and was able to use the family computer. Realistically I had access to the internet far too young, but I was entranced and would often spend as much time on the computer as I could, eventually leading to my parents banning me from the computer for some time. This did not stop my love for them though, and as soon as I was able to I was right back to being on the internet constantly. When it came time to think about my career choice for the future, I knew working with computers had to be the way to go, not only because I loved computers, but because it was a rapidly growing field that would ensure me a good living if I could make a career out of it. But why cybersecurity? Even from a young age, malware was always fascinating to me. I had no malicious intent myself, but the things that malicious people could do certainly did amaze me. Some of my favorite Youtube videos were those that demonstrated infamous viruses and how they worked. So even though I had no malicious intent myself, I did think that working with malware would keep my interested in my job and chose the field of cybersecurity.
