Components of a Business and IT

A business is comprised of many key roles such as: CEO, operations, marketing, sales, finance, and HR. All roles are uniquely tasked to support a business in different sectors such as employment and economy. Another role that is significant in supporting a business is the training and development teams. Training and development ensure that up and coming employees are trained with the necessary skill set to keep the business staffed and operating for generations to come. Within a business structure, training teams lie under the HR component of the diagram. This is because HR is responsible for hiring employees.

IT fits in its own department and has its own structure separated from an organization’s business structure. IT departments are responsible for storing business data, ensuring security, and testing technological infrastructures to ensure the business is operating smoothly. With so many variables, IT should have its own separate structure because it is a vast field with its own implications that encompass the business as a whole. For example, a business must communicate with its staff regularly throughout the day to be informed with lucrative information to ensure a safe, stable outlet for communication. The IT department must be involved to ensure software is operating properly. Now more than ever, businesses are using technology to ensure the business is operating as planned. With the rapid advancements in technology, IT plays a foundational role in maintaining systems, safeguarding information, and supporting business growth making it essential to operate independently within the broader business structure.
