Movies and Cybersecurity
Realism is often overlooked when making a film or a movie. Cybersecurity is a topic of film that fits this description as many technological events are not conducted in a proper manner. In the movie Skyfall, a group of digital forensics or security analysts are working to hack into a system by directly connecting to the device; while doing so, they fail to adhere to best practices when working with an unknown device by not checking for risks. In the films The Matrix Reloaded, scenes of hacking are often rushed and lack the complexity of surveying the environment. These films often simplify hacking and make it appear that little effort is needed to gain entry to a system. When people view these films, their interpretation of cybersecurity is how simple it might be to compromise a system and how hacking can be conducted very quickly. This makes people underestimate the defense and hardening capabilities devices have.
