With the incorporation of computers within the government, business, and personal use all across the globe; the need to regulate the traffic that flows through it becomes increasingly important. Criminals have existed since the creation of the first law (or the murder of Able by Cain dependent on your view) and they will continue to persist for as long as law and order remain the status quo on planet Earth. That being said, crime will always find a way to creep into every possible earthly venture, including the internet and computer systems. In regards to the criminal justice system of the United States, the enforcement of cyber laws has been implemented to ensure the safety of the United States government and the citizens that reside there.

The criminal justice system works to monitor the actions of criminals where ever they may be, in effort to anticipate and react to their transgressions swiftly and efficiently. Criminology works to study the reasonings behind the behavior of a crime, in effort to better assist law enforcement efforts in quelling similar crimes in the future. Cybercrime overlaps with criminal justice in that they both work to enforce the law and stop crimes from being committed; the only real conceivable difference is that criminal justice works towards the broad enforcement of general laws whereas cybercrime focuses primarily on crimes that occur within the realm of cyber space. Both fields work to enforce the law, ensuring that law-abiding citizens are not attacked or exploited by those that would do them harm; both fields work to ensure the safety and security of the citizens, the only difference is the area by which is protected. All in all, cybercrime is merely a specific section of the criminal justice system, whereas criminal justice encompasses the whole of general law enforcement.
