Computers are a technological marvel, being a machine that can complete a myriad of tasks, store an immeasurable amount of data, and act as search engines by which any conceivable piece of information can be searched or documented. Computers and their related systems are a key benefit to law enforcement. Being able to take inventory of and search through information relating to citizens and their criminal history, without the need to search it physically or rely on an operator to find it. Their inclusion into the law enforcement world has significantly cut investigation time down from what would have been days in the 40s to hours in modern time. Computers have also allowed for long range communication between thousands of miles of terrain. A feat that was also accomplished by the telephone, however the computer allows for the ability to type out whole sentences and paragraphs without the need to waste paper and ink. The communique can be transferred from computer to computer without the need to waste resources as it runs on electricity. Computers also have the ability to simulate virtually. That means that scenarios and circumstances can be simulated in the virtual realm and tested without the need to sacrifice anything physical in the real world. It cuts down procurement costs, safety concerns, time, etc.

However, the reliance on computers has made it easy for some countries like Russia and China to exploit their citizens through the usage of propaganda. The Russian government have utilized the internet and computers to justify their conflict in Ukraine via the usage of propaganda. At one point during the Invasion of Ukraine, the Russian government gave media outlets videos of President Zelensky reportedly surrendering to Russian forces despite the video being a Deep Fake. Another concern raised by computers is similar to propaganda, the mass distribution of fake news through social media outlets. The ability to regulate correct information within the sphere of public consumption has become somewhat difficult within the modern world due to the ability of computers to simulate or create situations/information that does not exist. Computers also allow for criminals to have an outlet by which they can sell illicit goods and services over the Dark Web or by the exploitation of social media sites such as Facebook or Twitter.
