CM Technology Inc. is highly regarded satellite communications (SATCOM) provider specializing in Low Earth Orbit (LEO) operations and ground infrastructure solutions. The company focuses on customized LEO tracking systems, maintenance services, antenna installation, and flexible service level agreements, all of which ensure outstanding service in global communications.
At CM Technology Inc., I was a part of a team of students who performed risk assessment and risk analysis for a satellite communications company. In my internship I was the Research Lead, given the task to research the company model, perform SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) Analysis, and utilize the NIST Cybersecurity Framework 2.0 to address their cyber security practices, policies, and procedures. Next, I created a comprehensive client intake questionnaire covering their concerns, needs, and opportunities in the cyber realm. After thorough analysis of CM Technology, I was able to recommend and create policies and procedures to help close the gap in their efforts of compliance. This included:
- Implement NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF) 2.0 for risk assessment
- Perform SWOT Analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats)
- Created a custom client intake questionnaire
- Assisting in Incident Response Planning (IRP) and Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP)
- Creation of an employee training and awareness program, employee email procedures, and overall best practice guidlines for company wide cybersecurity
- Implementation of a Software Improvement Plan to streamline and standardize software usage
- Provide recommendations for their future efforts such as Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) necessary of DoD contracts
- Recommend several free resources available from industry leders such as CISA, NIST, and The SANS Institute

This was a great experience that allowed me to see different areas regarding cybersecurity. With this internship, I was able to exercise my abilities in a leadership role, highlight my detail oriented nature, and utilize my creativity and innovative thinking to address the needs of the client. Problem solving is an area I excell in and at CM Technology Inc., I was able to employ this crucial skill. This experience gave me tools and insights to use in the future that will improve my knowledge of how cybersecurity is ever-evolving and needs to be approached from many angles.
