Valor Cybersecurity

Valor Cybersecurity is a cybersecurity firm focused on empowering leaders to digitally protect what they value most. Founded in 2021, his organization performs risk assessment, analysis, and management for private organizations and the Defense Department.

The mentoring I received from Greg Tomchick, CEO of Valor Cybersecurity, was integral for success in the class and is a valuable gift to my future career in cybersecurity. Greg’s lectures on risk assessment properly prepared me to go into the community and perform outreach to local businesses that may need assistance in areas of cybersecurity.  His knowledge and experience demonstrate the ability to actively engage with potential clients in order to work on their behalf to close gaps in cybersecurity.  I was given copies of Valor’s Top 10 Digital Security Checklist, which is a great resource, to implement when speaking with local business leaders. This checklist is a clear and concise document, which was a roadmap in navigating the assessment process we were tasked with performing.

Mentoring session with Valor Cybersecurity CEO Greg Tomchick.

While performing risk assessments, I was able to:

  • Engage with local small business leaders
  • Perform risk assessment and analysis for cybersecurity policies, practices, and procedures using the Valor Top 10 Security Checklist
  • Collaborate with Greg Tomchick for further guidance on measures to advise businesses to implement
  • Research actions organizations should take to close gaps related to cybersecurity
  • Follow up with businesses on ways to improve their cybersecurity effort and implement a culture of cybersecurity

With this internship I was able to display my excellent communication skills, highlight my problem-solving abilities, and perform in-depth research to address the needs of clients. The businesses I communicated with were very appreciative, understood I am considering their best interest, and were willing and open to allow me to assess their companies. The process of providing cybersecurity risk assessments as a community service was rewarding; I gained experience from the practice and companies received free services that will help them in the long-term with their cyber efforts.
