The Short Arm of Predictive Knowledge

on

Given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge, cyber-policy must be grounded in the precautionary principle, showing restraint, reversibility, and long-term sustainability over short-term efficiency. With how fast technology is progressing, and specifically AI, it is more prevalent than ever that we must be grounded in the precautionary principle. As Jonas mentions, “The non-existent has no lobby, and the unborn are powerless” (Jonas, 1973, p. 51). There is far too much unknown that comes with the future of AI not to have future generations taken into account when creating policies and regulating this stuff.
