In English 110C I learned more about the concept of writing, and how to improve my writing. Throughout the course I did many written assignments, and essays. One thing I can say is practice is a very adamant factor in my writing improval. This course caused my writing to tremendously improve in every aspect. Each class period I learned something new, and improved my craft in writing. The essays especially improved my writing skills the most. My skills were tested to the best of my ability in different aspects with every new essay. For example the IMAD Report Essay my ability to gather information from different individuals perspectives, and make an essay from it. In the Rhetorical Analysis paper I learned how to determine an author’s meaning behind their language in their articles. In the problem solution essay I learned how to write a problem then produce multiple solutions. In the infographic I learned how to use color design and appeal to promote an article. Throughout this essay I will reflect on my strong and weak points on essays I completed in the English 110C course this year.
The first essay I completed this year is the IMRAD report. The IMRAD report essay was due on September 29th. This essay I received a 43/50 or 86% for my grade. This Essay I did really well on. The research part of the essay flowed smoothly, and the interviewing section went just as well. When transitioning to writing the essay with my research and interview results I managed to get most of my information in a well organized and professional way. There were some places where I messed up in grammar, and I also put my charts at the end of my paragraphs instead of the beginning. The only other thing that needed much improvement was my thesis statement, which with some revision has now been improved. This essay was a great start to the course for me, and looking back I would only make a few revisions to it to improve my grade.
The second essay I completed this year was the Rhetorical Analysis Essay. The Rhetorical Analysis Essay was due on October 20th. This Essay I received a 39/50 or a 78% for my grade. This is my lowest essay grade. There are a lot of things I could have done better in this essay. First of all my thesis statement could have been improved in so many ways. Also there were many points where I spoke in 1st person in 3rd person. I had many grammar mistakes and capitalization errors. After revisiting this essay I made many spelling improvements. I also reworded my thesis statement. After reflecting on this essay and revising it I know I could have done a much better job on completing this essay.
The third essay I completed this semester was the Problem and Solution essay. The Problem and Solution essay was due on November 1st. My grade on this essay was 45/50 or 90%. This was my highest essay grade. I remember how impactful my title was for the essay. The overall transition to my thesis statement was good, and I had plenty of supporting information throughout my essay. Looking back at this essay there’s a few things I could change, but other than that this one was really good, and I am really proud of myself for it.
The final essay I completed was the Infographic and explanation essay. This assignment was due on November 17th. My grade on this essay was 44/50 or 88%. This assignment was a new one for me because I never made an essay along with an infographic before. At first I was really confused and thought I would get a bad grade , but I made a neat yet basic infographic. My infographic had all the basic requirements, and I had some nice pictures included in it. The exclamation essay had a lot of information, but I did put some things out of order and had some missing information. Besides the few mess ups I had a pretty good explanation essay.
This course taught me a lot about not only improving my writing skills but also going back and reflecting on things I did. In each essay there was something I could improve or do better. I realized the essays that I put more time in revising are the ones I got the best grades in. This course taught me a lot and prepared me for the next level of writing
