Benefiting from NIST Framework

Every organization in America would benefit from the NIST Cybersecurity Framework. As said in one of the articles “The United States depends on the reliable functioning of its critical infrastructure.” With the rise of hacks, ransomware, spyware, viruses, and worms, strengthening their technological systems would help. In the past three months I know of two big ransomwares that happened which resulted in business losing a lot of money. A pipeline ransomeware and one at a college 15 minutes from my hometown. The pipeline company that got hacked was in the process of hiring a cybersecurity specialist. I believe the NIST framework is very beneficial.

One example of the framework “refinements to better account for authentication, authorization, and identity proofing”. I think this is helpful so other people aren’t able to access someone else’s account. However, I believe we need to get rid of passwords. Passwords are a problem for security. Another example of the framework is “Greatly expanded explanation of using Framework for Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management purposes.” This is NIST explaining why the framework is good. NIST wants people to better understand Cyber Supply Chain Risk Management. The framework also focuses on using business drivers to guide cybersecurity activites and considering cybersecurity risks as part of the organizations risk management process. The framework also is very flexible when addressing cybersecurity. I think this is because it is a fairly new topic and most people don’t understand cybersecurity.

I think in the future I would promote the NIST Cybersecurity Framework because you can never be to safe. Technology can always fall into the wrong hands. To ensure full safety wherever I end up working at, I will make sure I do my best to make sure the company is safe from all cyberattacks.
