The Confidentiality, Integrity, Availability(CIA) Triad according to Josh Fruhlinger, a University of California alumni, is a widely used information security model that can guide an organization’s effort and policies aimed at keeping it’s data secure. The confidential aspect is made up by only allowing authorized users to access data models. The integrity aspect is made up by keeping the data in it’s correct state and making sure it’s not improperly modified. The availability aspect is similarly made up like the confidential aspect: allowing authorized users to access data whenever desired. The CIA has been around for about 40 years.

The CIA is very important when it comes to keeping important information safe. All three aspects of the CIA are very important alone. However, the three concepts in a triad of linked ideas means more than each concept individually. Each concept is one side of a triangle that completes the whole CIA triad triangle. 

The CIA triad is used today to ensure business continuity. However, in doing research, I have the CIA triad to be used more when dealing with financial information. For example, I like to invest money using a financial app called “Robinhood”. Now I will break down how the CIA triad is used when I use Robinhood to invest money into stocks.

Confidentiality: I am the only person allowed to login to my Robinhood account. Every time I log in, I receive an authentication code to my phone to make sure it is me and authorizes me to my account

Integrity: When I make transactions when depositing money into my Robinhood account, Robinhood has softwares to make sure I get the money without any of my banking information being leaked

Availability: Robinhood makes the app available to me by having a mobile and computer app that I can login to whenever I desire

Authentication and authorization are two similar topics that work together. According to okta.com, authentication confirms that individuals are who they say they are. Then authorization gives those individuals permission to access a resource. 

In conclusion, I believe that the CIA triad is still good to this day. In my research I found some articles saying that the CIA is outdated. However, I believe that is not true. I think that it still works most of the time to this day.
