Deviant workplace conduct is voluntary behavior that breaches significant organizational rules and is viewed as a threat to the organization’s or its members’ well-being (Bennett and Robinson, 2000). I feel like cyber technology has created many opportunities for workplace deviance. Different forms of deviance can be production, property, and political deviance. Since cyber jobs are mostly if not all online it makes it easy for deviance to happen in the workplace. One way deviance can happen is whether an employee was fired or believes he earned something he didn’t get, such as a promotion, an unhappy employee can decide to lash out at his employer. One example of this can be if when an employee is fired from a position, he still has the opportunity to download sensitive material and sell it to competitor companies for profit. Also if he knew the ins and outs of the company and how they managed and worked, he would still be able to continue harming the company. Another opportunity that cyber technology has created for workplace deviance is a angry employee shutting down security systems he was controlling which leaves the organization vulnerable to attack. This will result in hackers easily getting into the system to steal critical information.
