Four Majors and their Relation to Cybersecurity:

The majors of psychology, sociology, computer science, and criminal justice can all be related back to the center of cybersecurity. Both psychology and sociology focus mainly on the impacts of human behavior and the forces and motivators behind each action. Within cybersecurity, being able to understand motive and targets behind a cyber attack (from a psychological perspective) can help cybersecurity experts narrow down on areas for concern. Knowing the why can help experts find the “how” before incidents occur, this gives time for preventative measure. When we refer to sociology, we can see things through a larger scope in the world of cyber crime. In this, we can see the effects of our society and how it impacts criminal behavior and the cyber attacks we see.

In terms of computer science, individuals can learn more foundational and technical skills regarding devices and other technology. Individuals learn the ins and outs of basic programming and typing, generate unique algorithms, . Being proficient in these skills and with certain tools, cyber experts are more equipped to build and design sustainable security measures and are able to adapt to rapid changes. In a society that is evolving constantly, this proves to be vital.

With criminal justice, we can learn the legal framework and tape that goes into cybersecurity – whether it be the protection side, or the attacking side. Having knowledge of how the justice system works may aid in establishing programs and software that follow regulation and policies. This can also be tied directly into criminology. Understanding the mind behind the crime can help to create measures that go directly against these acts. It all comes down to being aware of how things work, including the systems and institutions we create over time.

Adopting other interdisciplinary studies can help cybersecurity specialists become more focused. We live in a society that is constantly evolving and revolutionizing. The policies and standards that we hold, for cybersecurity, must also change and become more elevated. With the use of other surrounding studies, we are coming closer and closer to our cybersecurity and maintenance goals.
