The Media Influences the Understanding of Cybersecurity:
The media has become a constant influence on many of our operations, including cybersecurity. For instance, in terms of hacking and criminal cyber crimes in general, we can see the depiction within films and shows. In many of the movies that are in the world today, they show hackers in “real-time”. There is no true planning or precautions taken when individuals are attempting to hack into networks and devices. Our society has taken root in the digital world, especially when it comes to media/social media. We can be heavily influenced by the things we see and here, even if it is coming from movies.
The video dives into the realities of cyber experts and what the job is really like. Hacking takes time and planning, the same with cyber professionals who are working hard to reinforce and protect users’ security. It is not just the click of a few buttons that will break into well protected networks. However, despite the many inaccuracies of the media, revolving hacking and code, there are still some components of truth. Hacking operations take a lot longer than they are depicted in movies and shows.
It was very interesting to see the thought process of a cyber expert in real time. In the video, she had well curate responses and showed a very deep level of understanding in the field. Naturally, it takes a lot of skill and hard work to understand and learn the foundational principles of cybersecurity and the information that goes into specific fields. However, each field of security is interlinked!
