Have computers made the world safer: for better or worse?

Computers have made the world safer and now play pivotal roles in our day to day operations, on both the global and local scales. We use computers for many different attributes of our lives. It has become an ever evolving plane. Some of our more critical daily uses can be anywhere from banking and paying bills, to any social interactions.

  • Improved communication and response time: The advancements and improvements we have made with computers have shown to result in increased security and safety. In terms of communication and response time, access to computers and technology have contributed to the increase and stabilization. Emergency services have the ability to distribute and receive vital information in times of disaster.
  • Security measures and reinforcement: Computers have assisted in making the world a safer place. They have enabled the cyber community to create advanced techniques in encryption, data safeguards, preventive measures, intensive authentication methods, and much more.
  • Monitoring & data storage Computers facilitate extensive monitoring and surveillance systems, all of which can further provide safety for the world. People have the ability to monitor their data and other aspects that they otherwise would have to physically travel for, etc.

While computers have provided a level of security, they also incorporate levels of risk. Any benefit and improvement made to a computer, could be argued to have an equal or greater integration of risk and danger. In the wrong hands, computers and other devices can be used to do harm against groups, individuals, organizations, etc.

We integrate computer systems into our daily lives and activities, we rely on them for storing sensitive information. More so, we use them to research and gain more knowledge on certain topics. Since our world has begun depending more heavily on technology, it has also become a target for malicious individuals.
