Course Description

This course provides an introduction to the analysis and design of information systems. Emphasis is placed upon the development of requirements that serve the business needs as well as the design of information systems. This course focus on the object-oriented approach of system analysis and design. 

Topics covered include traditional and agile software development process, requirements gathering, modeling, and design technics. Students are also exposed to emerging topics that promise major improvements in software development area. Factors relevant to the creation of information systems through development and implementation will be examined. 

Information systems development is a process in which technical, organizational and human aspects of a system are involved. In spite of the advanced technology that surrounds information systems, the process of systems analysis and design is still largely an art. There is a high dependence on the skills of individual analysts and designers even though there are established principles, methods and tools. This course will give students an understanding of the most common tools, techniques, and theories currently used in software system analysis and design.

Goals and Objectives

At the end of this course, students will be able:

1. Understand both traditional and agile software development process
2. Analyze a business situation, discover system requirements by communicating with various organizational stakeholders
3. Model requirements using appropriate techniques
4. Apply a framework in the design of an information system and create a commonly expected deliverables of systems design
