Introduction to Information Systems<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Course Description:<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lecture 3 hours; 3 credits. An introduction to the major hardware\/software components of modern information systems. Topics include introduction to the history of computers, numbering systems conversion, system and application software, networks and the Internet. Additional topics include Information Systems and Systems Development Life Cycle, Introduction to Programming, Databases and Business Intelligence, Information Security, and Privacy and Ethics in the cyber world. Intended as a comprehensive introduction course to the Information Systems majors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Course Objectives:<\/u><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • Analyze the various components, issues, and purposes related to business information systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Analyze the impact\/importance of business processes and information systems in an organization<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Explain the factors that determine how organizations select their information systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Describe how databases are used in business environments and processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Compare the different methodologies used for development of information systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Evaluate the functionality of information systems<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Explain fundamental communication and networking concepts in Information Technology<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Explain how the Internet impacts the way organizations use information systems today<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Evaluate the various information systems needed to support e-commerce<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Analyze the various roles and responsibilities involved with information systems management<\/li>\n\n\n\n
