Entry #3
The four ethical issues that I will talk about are security, confidentiality, inaccuracies, and implementation. The first ethical issue that arises when storing information about individuals is security. Security means to be free of danger or threats. This is because people’s privacy could be violated. Some examples of sensitive information that may be at risk includes medical information, family information, and credit card information. Security leads into the next ethical issue which is confidentiality. Confidentiality means something that needs to be kept private. This is why confidentiality is very dependent on security. If the security of information is not good, then the confidential information may be at risk. For example, if credit card information is not secure, the confidential information can get out and cause problems for individuals. Security is also dependent of confidentiality. If confidential information gets out, this could risk a persons or business security. For example, if confidential information about medical records is released, people may become at risk. The third ethical issue that can arise when storing electronic information is inaccuracies. Inaccuracies means that something is not right or not accurate. If inaccurate information is released to the public, such as news information, this could cause considerable issues. For example, this may cause mass confusion for the public. The fourth ethical issue that can arise when storing electronic information about individuals is implementation. Implementation is the process of putting a decision or plan into effect. If something is implemented the wrong way, it can lead to inaccurate information. Also, something that is implemented incorrectly can lead to to wasted resources. One example of wasted resources is medical resources for both hospitals and individual patients. Even though each of these four issues are different, they are also all intertwined. I believe that when looking at cybersecurity, all four of these factors must be taken into consideration.
