Cybersecurity can relate to almost everything going on in the world at this point in time. Almost every career can be linked to cybersecurity. For example, most majors at ODU can be related to cybersecurity in some way. The first major that I can link to cybersecurity is engineering. They relate because engineering plays a large role in creating cybersecurity systems. Some careers in engineering related to cybersecurity include computer engineering, engineering management, and system engineering. Also, many engineering systems are threatened by cyber crimes. The next major is criminal justice. This is because many people commit cyber crimes and people in the criminal justice field study these crimes. Criminal justice majors may study why and how people commit these types of crimes. People in this major also need cyber security to protect their own technology. Criminal justice majors may also be the people who are deciding how these kinds of crimes should be punished. Also, some criminal justice careers may be interested in how to better prevent cybercrimes. The next major is psychology. Because psychology deals with studying people’s behavior, it can be related to cybersecurity and technology. Psychologists may be thinking about why and how some cyber crimes work and how the victims of these crimes came to be. Psychologists may also think about why people can be so trusting of people or things online. The last major I will connect cybersecurity to is sociology. Because sociology is partly about how people interact with each other, it can be related to cybersecurity. Sociologists may think about how different people interact with each other online and how that can lead to more or less cyber crimes. Sociologists may also think about how technology around the world can impact cybersecurity and cybercrime. Almost any college major and career can be connected to cybersecurity these days.
