Cyber technology has made it harder for law enforcement to track down cyber criminals. This gives offenders the opportunity to hide behind a computer screen and cyber bully or stalk their victims. In some cases, offenders can be watching their victims without the victim even knowing. This can lead to black mailing. Cyber harassment usually revolves around belittling, annoying, or terrorizing the victims through various means. This can cause the victim to be personally targeted. It can put more fear into the victim because the offender can be unknown and making death threats to the victim. This can cause a great amount of anxiety and in some cases distrust toward their peers because it feels as though they don’t have control over their lives. What also makes it so dangerous is that the offender can stalk through a variety of devices. On top of that even if they are tracked through their social media, they can simply delete that account and create a new one to continually harass the victim. This is dangerous because if the offender is targeting through a different account, the victim can think that multiple people are attacking them. In some cases, the victim can feel so out of control that they may commit suicide and it has happened quite often in the past. This can also coerce the victim into perform certain actions that they’re uncomfortable with. Cyber technology has given offenders multiple faces to hide behind which will make it hard for the victims to have a sense of security. The criminal can have access to the victim at anytime of day and from anywhere around the world. And if the criminal gets access to different proxy servers than that can make the effort to track them even harder because it can give off multiple locations.
