Ethical practices are an integral part of what any good company or organization has, or at least one that wants to maintain the public trust and avoid being taken to court. One major ethical issue would be making sure any of the client or patients’ personal information that the company acquired must remain confidential and secured and only be sent to those given the proper authorization. Putting the proper protocols in place to assure that only authorized individuals can have access to the information is required for any organization dealing with personal information. Failure to do this properly can cause severe damage to one or more people, financially and otherwise. Bank accounts can be hacked, identities can be stolen, addresses and workplace can be discovered and could lead to someone stalking, threatening, or physically harming the individual whose information was stolen. Another ethical issue that may occur is that information that the organization is storing was not consented to by whoever the information is about. This can be as simple as storing password or credit card information on a site without getting consent from the individual providing it. Ethically and legally, and organization must notify customers or patients in the event of a possible breach of security that may have caused personal information to be leaked or stolen. Therefore, the implementation of a system for handling that is a must have for any organization dealing with confidential information.  The last ethical issue I will talk about is the feeling of the lack of privacy people experience nowadays. Google a pair of shoes one time and all the advertisements you see on your computer somehow end up being for similar shoes. This is not illegal for ad companies and others to do but it can be severely off-putting to an individual who will feel that their online life has no privacy even in the simple things. Obviously at this point it’s oxymoronic to say internet and privacy in this online world we live in, but I personally believe that it is the ethical thing to do to tone down the amount of information that seems to be collected and stored on everyone that touches the internet.
