ePortfolio Entry #14

The world in which we live in today is shifting rapidly at a pace we have never before seen. Much of what was once acceptable forty years ago is now not, which is to be expected as generations and priorities change, this was the norm. Looking at today, we see an incredible turnover from what was once thought to be wrong becoming good and vis versa, you need only go back a few years, not a generation. Most of the modern world has the ability to get online at any point they wish, see and hear things that they agree or disagree with, speak to others who feel the same, and form groups online to try and change them. This can be both good and bad. Individuals can rally together to demand someone is held accountable for a crime or immoral action that it seemed they would never be punished for, and by shining so much light on the topic it can easily cause action to be taken. The bad side of this is that someone, or a sect of people can be demonized by an online “mob” for nothing more than holding to, say, simple family or religious views. The ones in charge of the development of cyber policy and infrastructure need to realize and do what they can to create systems that will be morally and ethically sound, while also achieving their intended purpose. I truly believe that there is no way to develop any new long standing policies or infrastructures in the fast paced, hyper evolving modern world that we live in. These developers must treat their work as is they are members of the House of Representatives. With a two year term, these congressmen must almost immediately start preparing for reelection and that is the way that new cyber policies and infrastructure must be created as well. Constantly changing and adapting at speeds that would have been ridiculous 20 years ago, but are necessary for the times in which we live.
