A CNN host recently said he’d rather give his kids Jack Daniels and weed than Jack Daniels. What do you think about this statement?
I agree somewhat with his statement. It has been widely documented how much of a negative effect that Instagram has done to children, especially women as they are constantly bombarded with beauty and lifestyle standards that are often simply impossible to live up to. It can tear these children down on a day-to-day basis and lead to self-harming, eating disorders, and in rare cases even suicide. Obviously I wouldn’t say give a child drugs and alcohol, but if given the choice between honestly deciding which one is more harmful, I may just hand them a drink and take their phone away.
Why do you think victims don’t report cyber victimization?
There are two main reasons I feel victims do not report cyber victimization. One reason would be that they are simply embarrassed. You can’t believe that this happened to you, or it happened on a job, and you don’t want people to think any less of you and even possibly lose your job, so you keep it quiet, deal with the consequences alone, and hope that it never happens again. The other reason is I believe that many people don’t feel that there is anything you can do about it. To a lot of the people and with a lot of these cases there is no difference between this and having your dog get run over. You can’t call for help once the dog is dead, and you can’t fix this information that has already been leaked.
