Why are you interested in cybersecurity technology?

As a Signals Specialist in the U.S. Army and a Sophomore at Old Dominion University pursuing a degree in Cyber Security, I am intrigued by the limitless possibilities of the cyber industry and information technology. I have expressed interest in Cybersecurity because it will allow me to hone the skills and tradecraft that I have obtained through coursework and hands on training serving in the US army. My Army coursework has included subjects such as network architecture, Advanced Key Loaders, Defense Advanced GPS Receiver, high frequency radios, antennas, ethernet cable building and installing, hardware and software installation and troubleshooting, Patch Management, Multi Factor Authentication, Virus Protection,  and systems analysis. These experiences have strengthened my understanding of the pivotal role in maintaining the organization’s mission. I believe, the next logical step to bridge the gap between my course work and on the job training. With a degree in Cybersecurity, I anticipate enhancing my skills in identifying cyber threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, information assurance, network security, and risk assessment to help me develop a strong foundation. I plan to Commision as an Officer in the United States Army, upon completion of my Degree. I want to be an overqualified candidate when it comes to the Cybersecurity and Information Technology Sector. I understand that the future will continue to be improvements to the cyber world and space, whether that be a future war or even just human life advancement. After the Colonial Pipeline incident I think that really showed us how very important it is to protect all cyber space after the company was infected with ransomware. The attack had thousands of Americans Personal Information compromised, but it also affected gas prices for the Nation. This is our future, and I want to be on the forefront of this new world that is to come.
