The “cyberwar” that President Trump inherited from former President Obama is a problematic situation that all presidents find themselves in.  Taking over someone else’s mess so to speak is always a stressful and usually a P.R. nightmare.  Just as Obama took over former President Bush’s war on terror.  The cyberwar is needed for the safety of our country and many of our allies in the pacific, especially South Korea and Japan.  These allies are both strategic for our plans to keep both North Korea and China in check.  The article talks about how it is believed that the United States used cyber attacks to bring down or alter the programs the North Koreans were using in their rocket development programs.  These supposed hacks lead to rockets blowing up before they we suppose to or launching and veering of course and crashing into the sea.  In this Case Analysis I will argue that Confucianism will show us that the cyberwar Trump inherited was just because Trump’s job as leader of the free world and the United States shows that he should keep the war going.

     Boylan talks about having to reevaluate the normal definitions of war when we talk about if a cyber attack can be considered an act of war.  I got from this article that the major difference is that one can not always figure out who the main culprit or country is.  I feel that this is where one country is going to have to weigh the cost of retaliation if you are wrong.  The Stuxnet virus is an example of this weighing of the cost of retaliation.  Iran and anyone with half a brain can make a highly educated guess that the Israelis and for to an extent the United States were behind the attack on their nuclear enrichment program.  The Israelis and the United States have the most to gain from slowing down or destroying their enrichment program.  Israel is basically the sworn enemy of the country of Iran.  The US has been in a consent talks to have them stop the program, to make sure they do not obtain nuclear weapons.  Iran had to figure out that all fingers point to the joint effort by the countries to stop them.  Here, Iran does nothing that seems to be a retaliation for the attack to either country.  One, is the harm that would come to the country and its people if they attack either countries’ positions.  Second, they could not prove without a doubt to their allies that either country was responsible.  The lack of refutable evidence to prove an attack was warranted, the countries involved and their allies would cause such damage to the country and the economy of Iran that it was better to just use it a propaganda tool to help raise the anger towards the countries.  I feel that Confucianism proves that both all countries involved were just in their actions. First, if the Israeli were responsible for the attack, then they were walking the path.  The path is to keep the country safe.  This path is true and just for any involvement the United States had in the attack.  The path is to keep the people of the countries safe.  The country of Iran with nuclear weapons or the capabilities would put Israel in between a rock and hard place.  Iran has consistently put out their the desire to destroy the country and the people of Israel.  The United States path to protect its own interest and keep safe an important ally in the middle east.  For the path Iran walks is the same but with a different outcome.  Iran deciding not to attack either country, was the choice to keep its people safe from harm.  Iran having no direct proof that either country was responsible could not without major economic and political harm do anything but learn and move on from the attack.  Iran could state that the attack was unjust because it was an attack on its sovereignty.  The attack damaged physical equipment and set their plans back years.  The Iranians walked a just path to protect and save the people form further harm.

     Taddeo in this article brings up a major theme in the idea of preemptive strikes.  This idea has long been a major torn in war conversation since the dawn of time.  The idea is such a scary slippery slope to think about.  The difference is now the participants are not as clear as they once were.  In wars of the past wars were more retaliation events.  Something happened to your ally or your own countries interest and if bad enough or it could not be worked out diplomatically you then would send in troops to remove the problem.  Then came more modern wars, economic wars, you do something we do not like and we will punish you finically until you stop doing what it is we do not like.  Now comes a war to protect a major and important system, not just a way of life or government system.  It is to save an internet of things.  Systems and process, things that are actually everywhere.  She is saying we should at all costs save a worldwide thing, which includes an attack without a cause or just a thought of a cause.  This is where one has to put a real valve on the infosphere.  The world has to have a clear definition of the infosphere and its importance to the world.  Is the infosphere important enough to the world that one should attack a potential enemy without evidence that a the enemy is going to do harm?  The internet has grown ever more important to the first world everyday life, not all the world yet.  It is an important part of the economies of the first world and developing world.  The internet is the future. Protecting it is important but with the systems that run it all over the world, can we say that if one part goes down for a time that it will still not function.  If the damaging of one part leads to the end of the internet then yes we all as a world must protect it.  Confucianism would say yes to protect the infosphere would and could be the most important path we as humans could walk.  The importance of the infosphere and the systems that power it are as important as life, air, food, in this new world.  The path to protect this ever- increasing important system to the world should include the stopping of potential threats before they can occur.  The potential threats because of how quick and damaging the attack can be since everything almost runs on computers should be delt with before they become damaging and dangerous.  The system is a world-wide system one that has become as important as the earth itself.  The need for better controls and defenses for this system should become a major joint operation where all are involved.  She is just in the valve to save the system form potential threats and protect the system from failure.  The failure would and could be a bad as any natural disaster.

  In conclusion, Confucianism as a tool is a very useful to justify your point of view on a subject matter.  This tool has made both authors concept just.  It also has made moves by the “enemy” in the situation just.  To walk the path that you are supposed to is a fair and for lack of better term easy way to justify your opinion or stance on a subject.  The draw back to this tool and it use would be, how easy it is for the “enemy” to use it also.  The virus that was used to destroy Iran’s enrichment program could easily be used by Iran to launch a full-scale attack on Israel. Iran could use that point of view or tool to say that they attacked us and it is my job or path to protect my people and try to destroy the aggressor.  The just move by both sides were used, thankfully the government of Iran saw it logically that with no hard proof it was not worth the rath of the world to destroy or attack the aggressor or aggressors.
