Cyber security and standards of learning.
Social impacts of cyber security and standards of learning.
The policy strategy to have the US Standards of Learning changed to increase the teaching of cyber security will have strong social impacts on the country. The need to change the Standard of Learning have been influenced by the subcultures of the hacking world. The changes, as with changes in other parts of culture, will be met with push back. The changes in the US Standards of Learning will be the start of the change that can and should be beneficial to both the personal and economic well-being of the people of the country. Through the changes the US will be better suited to protect its citizens and economic interests both here and aboard. The changes will lead to a better understanding and informed populace to prepare for the future use of the ever-growing cyber space.
The policy to change the US’s Standard of Learning will have strong societal impacts. The US is under manned in the war to help control the safety of the internet. The changes to the standards will start to help educate middle school and high schoolers the importance of cyber security. Students, according to some research, are lax about security and they do not look like the knowledge gaps are closing before they enter the workforce (Van Schaik, 2017, pg. 547). The ability to bridge the gap between knowledge and the need to use security measures is going to be one of the most socially impactful results of the changes. The ability to demonstrate to the group in our society that is the most connected the need for their peer and themselves to take the security seriously will provide a quicker adoption rate. This generation if provided with the correct and truthful reasons for the importance of cyber security will lead to them defending their online life, plus the added benefit of them educating other older generations in their family group.
The next major impact on society will be a larger and more informed future workforce in the cyber security field. Countries, including China, have and are currently increasing censorship and assault on Western values on and through the internet(Yuen, 2015, p. 53). The larger and more educated and ready the workforce is the better equipped the US and their allies will be to handle the future attacks on our way of life and on our economies. Governments and businesses will have the figure out the sufficiency of the security measures to mitigate risks(Radanliev, 2018, p. 14). The decisions made by a better prepared defense force and future political players will play into a stronger economy and life for the US and their allies.
The subculture of the computer hacker has helped make the political players of today quicken and develop policies to protect the US society. The hacker subcultures raise from their parents’ basements to major state backed weapons, with their knowledge and ingenuity have led many countries including the US to fall behind in the new world on cybercrime and protection. This subculture once thought of as a very small problem at worse, is now causing billions of dollars of damage to both individual persons and major companies. This group had their figure on the pulse of the future while the governments overlooked the impact that the knowledge this group had and their ability to use said knowledge.
The policy and strategy to change the US Standard of Learning will face push back as do most policy changes in the US. The push back will come from the mistrust of the leaders of the country. People will ask why the changes? The people will question the way it will be done. There will be push back by people asking what will these new changes take the place of? The changes will cause the loss of which programs. Art, music, or physical education will these be reduced or cut? Where will the money for the programs come from? Will this lead to a raise in taxes to provide the funding or will other programs be reduced to make sure there is funding for the proposed programs? Push back will come from people who question why the government is so behind the times?
This policy and strategy change will face normal government trust push back from some of the US’S population, but the positive impact now and into the future will out way the immediate bad press. The policy will have impact both in quality of life and major economic impact for the US. The policy and strategy change will help the US and their allies fight back against both the finical attacks and the attacks on these countries way of life.
