1.  How can you tell if your computer is safe?

2. Describe three ways that computers have made the world safer and less safe.

How I can tell if my computer is safe is by simply doing a malware and virus check, then doing a diagnostic test through my settings. Usually, my computer will just tell me if there is something wrong or suspicious going on. If none of those options work most computers come with a year warranty of anti-virus and malware protection software. Looking online there are also many ways you can better secure your computer against attacks. Of the options listed I think the best choices were up to date software, new and secure passwords, secure connections, backup data, regular maintenance, and educating yourself. I chose these options specifically because of how simple and easy it is to make sure that these actions have taken place. The most important one to me is to educate yourself. This is because if one is able to make themselves more savvy using computers then the costs associated with maintenance and repairs can be greatly reduced. In some ways it’s similar to a car and mechanics, the more experienced a mechanic is the more likely he would be able to keep his money instead of outsourcing for help.

3 ways computers have made the world safer is 1. Easier forms of communication, such as emergency response. Accessibility created by the internet makes it much easier to contact and receive help in cases of emergency or natural disaster. Before the internet one can only imagine the tedious process of finding the closest health professional when an occurrence like breaking your leg could lead to death or amputation. 2. Advancements in healthcare such as MRI, X-ray, and CT machines. Without the evolution of technology simple feats like receiving an x-ray would never be possible. The healthcare field today continues to pioneer safer and more advanced ways to incorporate technology into the process of nursing a patient back to health. Lastly would be enhanced security measures protecting our private and confidential information. 3 ways computers have made the world more dangerous is the risk and possibility of cyber-attacks. Yes, our technology is nice, but they also open doors for us to lose everything important to us with the click of a button. 2 would be privacy concerns regarding user data. Concerns rise as Ai develops and the saying “nothing is deleted from the internet” lets people know that despite efforts to remove unwanted content once on the internet it’s almost always possible for someone to find or take archived information from different networked sources. Lastly, is the grand dependence on technology and the internet most of us have today. Everyone from teachers to analysts need the internet to make quick and in-depth observations over a large amount of time. This dependence gives us a false sense of safety as we’ve all probably felt for our phone in our pocket, realized it wasn’t there, and proceeded to slightly panic.
