Engineers make cybernetworks safer by implementing different strategies, techniques, and technologies to create resilient and secure cybernetworks. Many different methods including code or hardware can be used to deter and defend against attacks. For example, engineers may use encryption which according to Wikipedia is “encryption is the process of encoding information. This process converts the original representation of the information, known as plaintext, into an alternative form known as ciphertext. Ideally, only authorized parties can decipher a ciphertext back to plaintext and access the original information. Encryption does not itself prevent interference but denies the intelligible content to a would-be interceptor.” They may also use something many know as a “firewall” or a security measure to monitor network traffic and deny all access to sites not authorized by the company or organization. This is just some of the methods that engineers may use to defend cybernetworks more efficiently. There is no definitive answer or technique to completely get rid of attacks, but engineers can and must continuously monitor the network and come up with a plan or protocols in case of an incident needing response.
The overlap between criminal justice and cybercrime is that both are based around the occurrence of crime and what motivates offenders to break the law. The main difference between the two is that criminal justice focuses on the aftermath of a crime and the proceedings involved such as court and jail time. While on the other hand, cybercrime focuses specifically on the crimes committed including the use of technology or the internet. The overlap goes deeper than the basic study of crime by both disciplines needing to have some sort of adequacy in other disciplines such as psychology, ethics, sociology, law, and economics. How this overlap relates to other disciplines addressed in the course is both subjects have a multitude of aspects encapsulated within. Due to this, situations having to be properly examined and addressed to understand the correct scope and correlation between other disciplines.
