For my numbered motive list I considered how much damage the action can do to the victim and expenses that may be left out. Number 1 or the one that made the least sense was boredom because there is no excuse for predatory behavior or pedophilia. Number 2 on the list was revenge, although sometimes wanting revenge is warranted, posting someone’s private pics online can harm many people besides the main victim such as work, school, family members, etc. Number 3 on my list was entertainment. It didn’t make much sense to me as to why someone would find it ‘fun’ to mine data that’s supposedly “public information” but if it is open to the public what’s the big deal about one person accessing it? On the other hand I can see the problem with holding ransom over this information. Number 4 to me was recognition, it makes more sense to me to want to be remembered for something but I also think the nice part about the internet is its inherent anonymity. To me, keeping myself under the radar is important. Number 5 on the list would be money, as we know money makes the world go round so it’s very understandable that some would use cybercrime as a discreet side hustle to provide for themselves even though it doesn’t make it right. Number 6 would be political reasons, this type of activity can be very helpful or detrimental if not implemented and used appropriately. For example, DDOSING a running dictator may be alot better than a democratic candidate but the motive remains the same thus the severe punishment and jail time one can face. Finally, number 7 would be multiple reasons because there’s tons of things you can do on the internet and what it can cater to. Using and implementing it to your best ability for yourself and the ones around you should be the main priority.
