After watching the video portraying hackers in different mediums I am conflicted. Watching all those clips and having a professional break them down, I felt that there’s a lot of information related to our fields that we may not be aware of yet. This is understandable seeing as we are working on degrees and other activities to become more knowledgeable and adequate in I.T. and Cybersecurity problems or issues. In today’s media I think that the beauty of our online infrastructure is obviously obscured and exaggerated but also shown in a light that conveys it’s true potential. In some the scenes it was apparent that methods or functions in those certain circumstance would not work or really be efficient. A larger issue I notice is the causality portrayed through the scenes. For example, a code to break into FBI database’s would probably take vast amounts of time and prior or inside knowledge. In a lot of Hollywood’s movies it’s seen the hacker will find a vulnerability and within minutes and a lot of loud keyboard clacks that their team is mystically passed the firewall. In regards to technology out of the movie realm I think we are understanding the effectiveness of our cyberspace. On the news constantly we hear about either attacks, new findings, and the relevance of AI and chat GPT. I think that often technology is admired but largely feared by those not aware to all of its uses. In all, I think the largest problem with tech today is the misuse and in turn the fear spreading in the media. Instead of teaching us how to stay safe and monitoring for suspicious activities I feel as if we are made aware of the attacks, how it happened, and etc but they never really dawn on how to protect yourself without 3rd party help.
