The course expectations for me were something that I believed were realistic goals and achievements in a typical online course. They closely outline the outcomes I have gained by taking this course. I feel as if I have well-obtained mastery of the course objectives. While taking this course, I have had a different view on Social Psychology and what it really means and outlines. If I were to take this class again, I would be sure to spend more time focusing on applying the topics and objectives in real life, rather than just “learning” them. Over the last few months, I have academically grown by gaining knowledge on many topics and ideas of Social Psychology, and I have gained the skill of really viewing how people think and react in certain situations and understanding them. This can be used in my professional life by teaching me how to react appropriately in certain situations with different types of people.

When I read this article about the different mating issues and situations, I feel very strongly about some of these scenarios and highly agree with some of them, as I have witnessed many of them myself or been a part of them. I definitely feel as if the dating and relationship world today is a battleground. Some ways that men anger women in the dating world would be a man hanging out with another woman to make her jealous during the pre-consummation phase. A way that a woman angers a man could be the woman dressing provocatively and going out after their break up to make him jealous as well, in a different way.

The difference between self-regulation and emotional intelligence is very similar but different. Emotional intelligence is more of a rational thinking decision, where we evaluate our decisions and emotions and decide what is best, instead of making jump decisions. Self-regulation is the way of controlling your emotions when things happen and you are forced to respond to them, like stepping away and really relaxing back to your normal state. Emotional intelligence to me means being mature enough to think about your decisions beforehand, and making the right response in situations that could go either way. I think I personally could improve my EQ in school, as sometimes when assignments do not always go my way, I get upset in response instead of looking at the brighter side of things.

Jean Kilbourne’s Killing Us Softly III was not a surprising video for me, as these advertising techniques are something that I have seen many times before and have been educated on throughout my life. However, this video introduced me to certain ads that were shocking, that were used as examples to bring about points about how advertising thinks that women should be portrayed and what makes them beautiful. The video also introduced a perspective of gender representation that seemed to mimic a leading male role, with women being inferior and sexualized. While that is not a new concept, this video introduces ads that show a new way of viewing this idea.

The left advertisement for toothpaste is a credible source due to the inclusion of the statement, “9 out of 10 dentists recommend Sensodyne toothpaste.” The expertise factor of the dentists makes it credible, as people buy it with the idea that dentists highly recommend the toothpaste. If you were to go purchase a toothpaste from the store with no idea of which one you may want, most people are more likely to purchase the one with a high dentist recommendation, since an expert of teeth recommends it. This makes it a credible source.

The middle advertisement is an advertisement for an acne care/prevention system called Proactiv. This particular advertisement is not considered a credible ad, as there is no relation to the effectiveness or recommendation of the product, it just is associated with Katy Perry, who from knowledge is not a skin expert, she is a singer. The addition of Katy Perry to the product just makes people want to buy it thinking that Katy Perry endorses it, with no information on if the product is credible or not.

The right advertisement is an advertisement for a perfume. This is considered an attractive ad, due to the sexily dressed woman in the ad, who is frolicking in the ocean with the wind blowing through her hair. She represents the sex-appeal the ad is radiating to the public, with the idea that the perfume will make you feel sexy like the woman in the photo. This usually is effective, and I also feel as if it is effective in getting the product sold.

As I prepared for the exam, keeping my notes was something I was religious about, and I augmented my notes to the appropriate format for each section. Different sections required me to take my notes differently and focus on what was most important. Seeing what worked for me and what did not as far as note-taking went, I can learn from this test and the 2 questions I missed to focus more on certain sections and make sure my notes that I took reached the correct point that I was supposed to take away from it. As I began to use the review sheet, it helped me a lot over the week before the test as it allowed me to have an idea of what I needed to focus on.

The connection between music and relationships I believe is something that is a strong connection and can bring people together in ways that some may not be able to comprehend. I believe also that some people may associate certain songs or genres of music with certain people, events, or things that can provoke certain emotions, ultimately resulting in the formation of new relationships. I and my closest friends all have a similar music taste, as we also share similar values and ideals because we are so close.

For the General Self Efficacy Survey, I scored a 31 with a mean score of a 3.1. I believe that this score does describe me well as a student, as I think I am a fairly hardworking student, but I always have room for improvement. My level of confidence as a student is definitely what I would consider fairly average, as sometimes I underestimate myself, and other times I overestimate myself. However, I like to remain confident always in myself and what I produce for school work so that I can do my best work. If I did not have a job or multiple other difficult classes, I believe that my confidence would be much higher due to the fact that my workload would not be as heavy. As far as my results go with my results as how they relate to my task accomplishments, I believe that a 3 is a good representation of how quickly I get things done, along with the quality that I get them done as well.

The course objectives of Social Psychology outline a lot of different ideas and concepts that are going to help me tremendously in the future, in the sense that I will be able to view how people process and react to things, and I will also be able to break down and analyze people’s attitudes as they form and how they affect situations, along with many other things. This will help me in the future also with strengthing my social skills and allowing me to react to certain situations the right way and say what I should when the time is right. Also for this course, I expect to learn a lot about how social situations and influences affect how people talk, think, and react to things. I am also hoping to gain more knowledge on how social factors influence people and their behavior. As far as strategies implemented in this course to ensure my success, I plan to study hard, and used my information and notes in order to answer questions.
