Taking Spanish 101 has helped me to become more knowledgeable about cultural diversity and communications with individuals from other backgrounds. A great example of how learning about Spanish and Latin culture can be displayed here, where we discussed common greetings and how those same greeting would be perceived in the U.S. The research-based questions also provided great insight into Latin/Spanish culture.
The ContraseƱa website was very beneficial for learning Spanish as the games and repetition helped to cement the concepts and having the options for extra practice provided additional support. I also really enjoyed the voice recordings and Flipgrid videos as challenges to also try speaking and remembering the words we learned.
I took Spanish in high school and many of the concepts stayed with me, however I was never taught how to tell time in Spanish so learning how to accurately tell someone the time in Spanish is the biggest take away I have from this course. I also really enjoyed the emphasis on academic concepts like college courses and majors, I feel like that will be beneficial to me in the future.
I very much enjoyed learning new words in Spanish and plan to continue trying to expand my vocabulary as well as improve my grammar in another language.
When I started this course I could put choppy words together in Spanish but now I am able to string together sentences. Although I know I can improve my grammar a lot more, I am very happy with the growth I have made this semester and plan to keep going.
