Legal System Difficulties and Advancements in Technology Write-up

Legal System Difficulties and Advancements in Technology

What Legislative Bodies should do?

All legislative bodies including local, state, and federal have a role to play in helping the legal system to match technological advancement. One method legislative bodies should employ to adapt to technological innovation is identifying the essential principles and values of new technology (Ryan & Stahl, 2020). Examples of the principles and values include equity, equality, inclusivity, responsibility, openness, and accountability (Payne & Hadzhidimova, 2021). Such identification would aid legislatures in understanding how technology advances and in developing appropriate laws.

The legislative body should embrace research as a way of learning about technological progress. Having departments dedicated to studying technological trends would play an important role in helping the legislature to keep pace with the changes (Holt & Bolden, 2014). Following this path would allow for the development of proper regulations based on research findings.

Legislative bodies need to interact with other stakeholders to understand technological changes. Other players such as technology vendors, application developers and users of these services have ideas about their expectations and challenges that they encounter (Reisach, 2021). As a result, involving stakeholders is likely to assist the legislature in identifying and selecting relevant technology-related difficulties to address.

Policy Closing the Gap between Legislature and Advancement in Technology

In view of the challenges that legislatures face because of rapid technological advancement, adopting an inclusive strategy in policy-making would facilitate the sharing of ideas about addressing technology-related challenges.  Whereas, the policy should protect the interests of users, the aspirations of technology providers should also be considered.

Conclusion

The field of technology remains highly unpredictable. However, the legislature can adopt various strategies or policies in addressing the challenges. For instance, through research and a participatory approach to policy development would help the law-making bodies in addressing the difficulties that are encountered.
