Cyber technology has made workplace deviance a lot easier, and a lot harder to catch in some instances. Because almost everything we do at work now happens on a computer or network, employees have more chances to misuse systems without being physically seen or even present. For example, someone can copy sensitive files onto a USB drive, leak company data, or browse restricted sites during work hours without leaving their desks. Remote work has also opened the door for employee slacking due to use of cyber technology and systems, like streaming, gaming ,or doing side gigs on company time.
Another big issue is how easy it is to hide behind technology. Employees can use anonymous accounts, VPNs, or personal devices to get around company monitoring. Even something small, like installing unauthorized software, can turn into a security risk. Overall, the more connected workplaces become, the more opportunities there are for both intentional and unintentional workplace deviance. Strong policies, good training, and proper access controls are more important than ever to combat this.
