IDS 493 Reflection

IDS 493 is all about creating an e-portfolio to showcase your knowledge, hard work, and time while at ODU. The portfolio is also designed to help identify your future goals and how you would like to enter the workforce. One of the primary skills I learned throughout this course was to appreciate peer reviews and use them to help better my project. Most weeks we had to review someone else’s project and give feedback. This was helpful and allowed me to learn better ways to improve my own work. This course has also helped me learn how to create a website. There are many elements that go into making a good site. Media plays a big role in this and there are many different types of media that should be included. Knowing where to place them as well as the best way to utilize each piece of media is important.

ODU Cybersecurity Reflection

Although I did not complete the entirety of my cybersecurity degree at ODU, the last two years have been very informative. I learned a great deal about cybersecurity and its various fields. I think the most valuable skills I learned was how to utilize Linux and its various functions using the command line as well as windows administration.

The biggest challenge I had while attending ODU was that I was working full time while taking a full course load. Managing 15 credit hours and 40 hour work weeks at the same time for the whole semester was difficult. I was able to strengthen my time management skills in order to complete all of the work I had to do.

I learned that the cybersecurity field is much larger than I initially thought. There were specific interdisciplinary studies courses that pointed my attention to how it can affect different areas of study such as business and politics. It helped me understand how crucial cybersecurity is to almost any type of business and government.

Conclusion

IDS 493 is an interesting class. Having an e-portfolio is a cool way to show the work a student has performed throughout their time at Old Dominion University. It can be used as an additional reference when applying to jobs or graduate schools. In my case, I already work full time in my designated field, but it was a good experience overall. After I graduate, I will continue to work my current job for the foreseeable future.
