The NIST framework 5

The 5 function of the NIST framework is the main benefit to any organization. When a company is able to Identify, Protect, Detect Respond, Recover to situations growth is guaranteed. It’s a trick down effect with it comes to the 5 main functions of the framework. One happens after another and cant be skipped. They act as the backbone of the Framework Core that all other elements are organized around. Even though all the parts of the functions are important I believe the factor of Identify is probably the most important. The reason I think it’s the most important is because identifying set the tone for the rest of the factors. Identify is the question then the other 4 factors are the answers or follow up question. A company uses all 5 factors for overall growth. If a company says then are in a stable position and don’t have any room to grow. That is a lie. If a company says that then first they are not using what in my option is the most valuable factor. Which is to identify. Being able to identify in a company will not only find problem but find area to grow where there isn’t any problems. The Identify Function assists in developing an organizational understanding to managing cybersecurity risk to systems, people, assets, data, and capabilities. Understanding the business context, the resources that support critical functions, and the related cybersecurity risks enables an organization to focus and prioritize its efforts, consistent with its risk management strategy and business needs. Then this jumps straight in the next factor of protect. Being able to prioritize what needs to be protected and what doesn’t need to be protected is key. With out the identify factor then we don’t know what there is to protect. Then the domino affect happens where if we cant protect then we can Detect, respond, or recover.
