Computers have undeniably had a huge impact on our society for better and worse. One benefit computers have added is more speed when it comes to calculations. From simple arithmetic equations to complex mathematical formulas with live data, computers offer fast and efficient speeds which can be applied to areas of society such as finance and science. Another benefit is that it makes a lot less errors than humans. Computers calculate things almost perfectly since they are programmed to store and remember information which a person may forget. Removing human error in certain industries can make certain critical systems nearly perfect therefore increasing consumer trust. Some examples of this include biometric authentication and digital payment processors. Computers have also given us access to a wide array of media and content. For example, videos and tv shows are now available all over the internet giving us swift access to entertainment. This also gives us access to an exorbitant amount of information that can be filtered and found using search engines allowing us to fulfill our needs whether it be a quick answer or a lengthy research paper. However, this could arguably be a downside as well, since people could get addicted to this technology. Computers have made it easier to get addicted to things such as gambling and video games therefore decreasing productivity and
healthy spending habits. Criminals have always existed since the beginning of history, and computers have let them evolve even more. Even though they carry heavy punishments, crimes like fraud and theft are harder to track therefore often safer for criminals which entices more people to commit these crimes. While using computers, it is easy to hide who you truly are which makes it hard for law enforcement to enact punishment. Another issue is that these attackers and criminals could also damage real infrastructure, since companies such as construction businesses may integrate computers with their business infrastructure, therefore making it vulnerable. A simple wrong setting getting configured could make a huge difference in some of these systems, and even with adequate security, these attackers could be cyber criminal organizations with political goals making them a serious threat.
