American Constitutional Law: Individual Rights
When pursuing a job in government I believe it should be mandatory to take classes in law. Not because I believe that all government workers are unable to respect individual rights, but because the frame of mind necessary for making proper legislation is best understood through the study of law.
Taking law classes, this one especially has opened my eyes to the loopholes in laws and the consequences therein. Whether or not they’re intentionally made that way, the number of interpretations that are possible are damaging not only to the area in which they affect but to the psyche of the Americans it affects as well.
When a law or an institution following a law hurts an American, perceived or otherwise, distrust begins to grow in that person’s mind. With the amount of distrust that is present in the current governmental structure, I feel that a drastic change in direction is needed to rectify the situation between the people and the government. I feel that a good step forward could be the retraining of the legislators currently placed throughout the U.S., and include basic law, a class that a fair amount is missing.
