As a new professional entering the world of cybersecurity, there and several reasons why the field captivates me.

First, the ever-growing threat landscape in the digital world is a major driver behind my held interest. With the increasing frequency of cyber attacks, it has become crucial to safeguard sensitive information, systems, and networks from persons with malicious intent.

Moreover, the dynamic nature of cybersecurity technology appeals to me greatly. The field is constantly evolving and new technologies emerge and threats become more sophisticated. This ensures there is never a dull moment in the profession. The rapid pace of innovation gives me the opportunity of constant learning, where I can continually update my skills and knowledge in order to keep up with the latest trends and countermeasures.

Cybersecurity is an interdisciplinary subject. In fact, there are multiple majors at ODU that relate to cybersecurity.

Computer Science and cybersecurity are closely intertwined, with computer science serving as a foundation for many aspects of cybersecurity. It provides the fundamental knowledge of how computer systems and networks operate. Computer science principles and practices play a vital role in secure software development.

Criminal Justice and cybersecurity share a significant connection. Investigating cyber crimes is done by criminal justice professionals who play crucial roles in prosecuting them. They also participate in the development of cybersecurity policies and guidelines.

Psychology plays a significant role in the field of cybersecurity, as it helps us understand and address the human element. It helps us study human behavior in order to understand how individuals interact with technology and respond to security measures. Social engineering is a large part of the cybersecurity world, it is a technique used by attackers to exploit human vulnerabilities and manipulate individuals into divulging information. Psychology helps in studying and understanding these techniques.

Even economics has a close relation to cybersecurity. Economics provides the framework for conducting cost-benefit analyses. Organizations need to assess the potential risks and benefits associated with implementing cybersecurity measures. Economics also deals with the financial impact of cybercrime.
