In this course, I am hoping to gain a better understanding of social aspects in others. I want to learn about how and why we choose the people we have relationships with, romantic or friendships, and how those people influence us. Social Psychology is one aspect of Psychology that I have been interested in. Since I want to work with others as a counselor, social psychology will be needed to understand their behaviors or feelings, and how they are influenced by others around them. The photo I picked on this blog helps me understand what heuristics are and why we use them. I am a hands-on learner and visual learner so photos help me. Notes do not always help me learn a subject, so when I need to understand something better I tend to look up photos, memes, or different articles/ videos. To stay organized in this course I follow the syllabus by writing down what I have due each week. I have not done an eProfile for a class since my first semester here, so getting used to this again has been a challenge.

I am an organized student, but I know I can still improve in many different ways. Starting this semester I told myself to write down all my assignments due and attempt to have most finished before Friday evenings. This has worked at times, but not always. I tend to procrastinate or take way too long on assignments because I believe I am doing them wrong. When I first started college I did not focus on school at all and my grades suffered, so learning new ways to stay organized. For my self-efficacy test, I answered the majority of the questions either 2 or 3. I believe I answered this way because I am not always too positive I would handle situations in the correct manner or fast every time. I am also still working on my self-confidence so many questions I feel like I cannot answer a 4 just yet. I tend to handle many situations, but at times I can fall short or even not have all the right answers at that moment.

Music has always had a huge impact on my life. When I need a moment away from things I will normally play a random playlist of mine just to whine down. When I met my current boyfriend we played each other songs on the car ride to our first date and our music types were very different but matched our individual personalities well. I think playing music to each other also gave us a sense of what we liked daily because I have a very broad selection of music, but there are always a few songs that are shown to people when asked what I like. We have even found many songs these past few months that we love singing to each other. My close friends and I all have pretty similar music taste and we all have very similar personalities too when you meet us all together. We are all different in many ways, but our values all line up together. All the songs in my soundtrack represent a song that I would associate with those people because these are the songs we sing too together. When I am alone and listening to them they remind me of them.
Soundtrack:
Significant other- “When I was your man” by Bruno Mars
Friends- “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus
Sister- “I write sins not tragedies” by Panic!
Myself- “Sweater Weather” by The Neighbourhood
My love for the beach- “Riptide” by Vance Joy
Sorority- “Run the World” by Beyonce

After review my exam 1 test, I realized my study methods were useful for this test. I normally do not learn by writing a lot of notes down so I focused on reading the textbooks and reviewing my past assignments to understand the material. I think if I could see the correct answer I would be able to see as to why I picked my choice. Usually, when I take tests I end up switching around some answers to another one because I get nervous that it does not make sense or just is not right. I tend to second guess myself most of the time.
For the next exam, I think I will continue to do what I do now, as well as, factoring in other studying ways to ensure I keep my test grades at where I want them. I also like to review the archive assignments since many of them are fun assignments to do on the side. I am also going to try not to second guess myself on my answers because normally when I review the questions I was concerned about the ones I changed I get those wrong.

This advertisement represents a credible source because it is from a very well-known company many people drink vitamin water. Vitamin Water claims to give “vitamins for your body” and provide a list of the different vitamins in the water. They even say they are zero calories which are true and allows people to drink it when they are watching calorie intake.
This advertisement represents a non credible source because it is an ad that a famous social media person posted. Chances are Kylie does not actually use this product and is only posting about it to earn money per the likes and comments. Many people post their advertisements with captions that the company decides on.

This advertisement represents an attractive source because the company Dior uses a model who is attractive to show off their mascara. When people see this then tend to believe their eyelashes will look like that too and they too can be as attractive as her. Many companies use an attractive person or someone famous in their advertisements to help their sales rise.

The video I watched went over very important aspects that ads use to sexualize women. I have always noticed how ads sexualize women since I was younger and noticed it more as I got older. Many ads try to sell their products to others by including women. These women are normally sexualized in different ways, including; exposing their bodies, mouths wide open, showing off long legs, using women with a smaller torso or waist, make-up, and etc. By doing this they make women and men believe that buying their product will help them with attracting others or be seen as normal in society. Doing this is harmful to women because it allows others to view women as sexual objects and causes women to feel insecure about themselves. Men can be sexualized as well, but most women in ads have wording that is offensive and can be hurtful towards who the ad is targeting. Sexualizing anyone to sell a product is never okay in my opinion, you should not have to use someone’s body to get your product to sell.
This ad shows two women who have on matching tops that push up their breasts to look larger with glowing skin holding a beer. The company used these woman knowing they would get sales from men by sexualizing them.

This ad tells women that by buying their product it will help them lose weight so they have the body type society wants them to have. Their product “washes away fat and years of age” so they pictured an older women with a larger body type at the top and at the bottle is a younger smaller girl with the image they believe woman should want to have.

This ad uses a woman with a nicer body to show others that if you think this drink it will make you look like this. In the ad it states “only shape you’ll be in this summer is round” because if you drink soft drinks it will make you “fat” according to them

This ad shows that when you eat unhealthy options you are to be larger than eating healthy options. The ad uses a women’s body to get their point across.

This ad sexualizes a woman so men will buy their product. From holding the bottle with her chest, having red nails and lips to be sexy, and having her mouth open appears to men that if they use this, a woman will be interested.

Self-regulation and emotional intelligence both deal with controlling and monitoring our behaviors, emotions, and actions. Emotional intelligence is important to me because it can help me control and monitor my emotions in a stressful situation and communicate with others positively. There are 5 different components to emotional intelligence which are; Self-awareness, Self-regulation, Motivation, Empathy, and Social skills.
When I am at work and a customer frustrates me instead of yelling or arguing I usually control my emotions and talk to them in a calm manner to help them with the issue. I will normally attempt to put myself in their shoes and handle the situation with how I would want it handled.

According to my results, I do well with most of them overall. Self-management and social awareness are my top two from the results. Social awareness makes sense to me because I am very good at socializing with others and understanding people.

The article about mating was very interesting. At the beginning of relationships I believe many people fib or hype themselves up more to attract the person they are interested in, but this can cause future conflicts. I believe that being honest from the beginning is more beneficial in a relationship for the future. Jealousy occurs in my relationships and this can cause a huge conflict between people because if you feel like you cannot trust your partner then why be with them? Even after a breakup most of the time, one party will attempt to get their partner back, but this can be serious as stalking can occur and the other many only go back so that stops. Many relationships start out in this honeymoon phase, but as time goes on you can see your partner’s flaws and maybe decide you do not want to be with them or you push past it and build your relationship into something stronger.

This image is of a woman looking over her partner’s shoulder to see what he is doing on his phone. This can occur because of uncertainty and/ or jealousy. Women sometimes check their partner’s social media and messages because they want to know what is being talked about, but this can cause their partner to feel upset towards them because they do not think they are trusted. Not feeling trusted can cause you to get upset with your partner.

This image is a woman looking somewhat annoyed with her partner because the tv seems to be more important than her. I think this is a common issue in many relationships where men pay more attention to tv or video games than their partner. Most of the time your partner comes to see you not to see you watch tv or play games. Alone time and date nights are very important when maintaining a healthy and growing relationship.

So far in this course I have learned many new and interesting aspects of psychology and life. I learned ways that men and women upset each other and how that can affect relationships. This is due to the fact men and women both express thoughts and emotions in very different ways. The second thing I learned is how much ads degrade women. I knew that women were sexualized, but I never realized how much and how horrible it could be. I found ads that basically told a women if they were not drinking that drink they were big, which is not acceptable as no one has the same body. The last thing I learned is my self regulation and emotional intelligence and how knowing my results helps me understand how I handle myself. I learned from the test we took that I was good with self management and social awareness.
One thing I learned in this course and another course was the degrading women in ads and how harmful that can be mentally on women. In one course I take we just learned about eating disorders, and I believe those ads that degrade and sexualize women can be harmful to those suffering to see. They might see those ads and think “I do not look like that so I am not good enough” and attempt to harm themselves or not eat again.

I choose this photo because when learning in school I am a visual and/ or auditory learner so when learning a lot of the material this semester watching videos or looking at photos helped me understand and express what I needed to talk about.

At the beginning of the semester, I stated I wanted to gain a better understanding of social aspects in others. I also wanted to learn about how and why we choose the people we have relationships with, romantic or friendships, and how those people influence us. I think so far this course has provided me with a better understanding of this course because of the assignments and accomplished the goals of mine this semester. I have learned more about psychology in this course overall and how/ why we interact with others and behave. This course has helped me meet deadlines better and learn how to fully understand course materials each week. I take the time throughout the week to understand what we are learning and it has helped me excel on tests and assignments. If I took the course again there is not much I would do differently, as I feel like I have learned much even if it is an online course.
