Select 4 majors that are offered at ODU that relate to cyber security
Biology- Biology is related to cyber security for numerous reasons. A term that is typically used to relate the two is cyber-biosecurity. When talking about biosecurity, traditionally, biosecurity focuses on the misuse of life-science tools, equipment, and knowledge. Whereas cybersecurity is given the role to store technology-based information. Biology is known as the study of life with many topics that are combined to make it a whole. Just like how in cyber security there are many themes that make up the whole infrastructure.
Criminal justice- Criminal justice relates to cyber security hand in hand as most of the knowledge that you will obtain from criminal justice will help you be a better cyber security specialist as you know what is right and wrong. Cyber security workers will become the new front-line defenders knowing that our technology advances each day. When using criminal justice studies to track criminal behavior, we as cyber security specialists can then use that information to see how a criminal think, their objectives, the reason they choose their decisions, and to be able to use that information to stop criminals from threats.
Mechanical engineering- Mechanical engineering is one of the oldest and broadest of the engineering disciplines so it is safe to say that this is the foundation of engineering. A branch that uses mathematical principles and science to be able to design mechanical systems. The same goes for cyber security, there must be a good understanding of math and social sciences to be able to design apps, know how it works, and be able to protect them from attackers.
Computer Science- Computer science is the study of computers and technology, the way that these two fields are related is that cyber security is a subset of computer science. People working with cyber security companies or organizations will typically be protecting networks, systems, programs, anything with valuable information from hackers. Not only that but in computer science, you can learn more about coding which will give you benefits as you will know how to make apps/websites. Knowing the ins and outs of these will help significantly from being attacked and having your information stolen.
