1. What are the costs and benefits of developing cybersecurity programs in business?
With technology being used in almost every business, it can be safe to say that every business should have some type of cyber security implemented into their systems to ensure that everyone’s data is safe. Not every business is large and has the extra funds to spend it on cyber programs, but the benefits outweigh the cost so saving up for these programs will definitely be beneficial. Cyber-attacks and breaches could potentially cost billions of money depending on the information that was exposed to the hacker or how serious the attack actually was. According to the cost of data security, it can cost around $100-$500 for a single record that consists of financial information related to health records (Aagan). I’m sure most people have heard about large companies that have gotten hacked and have caused them to lose a customer base with them. Take AT&T for example, they got hacked and all over social media people were claiming that AT&T was responsible for having their information leaked to hackers and causing them to lose customers. Once a business becomes a victim to cyber attacks you begin to see the decline of profits of what they used to be making and if taken to an extent, a hacker could cause a business to shut down for good. With all the technology being used in the workplace, business’s need to have plans to counter hackers or plans to recover data and be prepared for the worst. New attacks should lead to new plans and how to stop the next attack or be able to protect their employees and business. Having the correct educators on cyber security teaching employees about the types of attacks and how to prevent being hacked is crucial to keeping the company stable as everyone should know what to and not do. Recovering from a cyber-attack can take a long time for certain businesses so having the correct plans in place can make all the difference.
