How should we approach the development of cyber-policy and -infrastructure given the “short arm” of predictive knowledge?

We should approach the development of cyber-policy and infrastructure by continuously having a strong defense system. The same way our technology and defense for systems improve, so will attackers and their ways of breaching networks. In cybersecurity, if you aren’t prepared for the worst to happen, then the worst will happen to you. Cyber security is a branch that will always continue to evolve so taking into account the different ways that you can get hacked is important knowing that you have done everything in your power to have the best defense implemented into your system. Always knowing an attacker’s next move will make things much more difficult for them and predicting what an attacker will do can be quite complicated but based on previous attacks or the current attacks that are happening to big companies and organizations can help with the predictions of how an attacker might try and breach your network. Having a strong firewall is one of the first main defensive measures to have on your network to ensure no breaches occur. Having one of the best firewalls can be an overstatement as we don’t know how long it will be considered “the best” until it gets broken into or by the amount of times it gets breached but that’s one of the limitations about “short arm” of predictive knowledge. With technology evolving at tremendous rates, it is important to keep in mind that a breach or new type of attack can happen at any given moment. Having the right plan and measurements to keep attacks at 0 or at a limited amount is necessary as they could cause serious harm. Not everyone goes about their daily life thinking about how the worst can happen and prepare for it. This is something that needs to be implemented into businesses towards their employees because like I said, the worst can happen at any given moment and having a team where everyone knows what to do in a situation can make all the difference.
