Old dominion offers many different majors and many of them relate or have to do with cybersecurity.  One of the main majors that is tied into cybersecurity is criminology.  Criminology and cybersecurity can go hand in hand considering how many types of cyber crimes can happen on a daily basis.  Identity theft is probably the most common.  Identity theft occurs when someone hacks into their personal information and can mimic said persons purchases.  They can use their identity to make many different kinds of purchases and can ruin that person’s credit as well as get them in trouble if they get in any legal trouble.  Another major cybersecurity is in the health majors.  Many doctors must have secure files on their patients because of all the personal information that doctor has.  Most doctors have an upwards of 2000 patients and he or she has access to so much of everyone of those patients lives.  Their social security, their health records, their address, some of their relatives address and more.  Then definitely their billing information.  That can lead to identity theft as mentioned before.  All of it really ties together because a lot of the information is computerized.  When it comes to computers or anything that can connect to a network it is hackable. Another major it relates to is business.  When it comes to businesses, especially big corporations ,for instance Apple or Sony, they need a lot of cyber protection because they have so many different confidential information on their files.  If one business was to supposedly get hacked by their competitors then they could possibly use the information they got from that hack either against them or use it for themselves.  Thus eliminating their competition by taking out their rival competitor by using their own information.  Lastly probably the biggest major that would rely on cybersecurity is government.  The government has probably the most secure networks and they need them because they can intercept so many threats and see other threats way before they were to actually happen.  One example is with their confidential information like certain military personnel.  If their information was to get out then their whole family and friends are at risk.
