Reflection
I want to elaborate on my three years here at Old Dominion and talk about some of the skills I have learned while being here in the cyber program and working with Old Dominion IT since I have been here. I came to Old Dominion during COVID in 2020 and it was rough starting out because it was a major adjustment being I was an all-online student in my first year. However, after my first semester, I got a job working for the IT department of the school. Through the years I have learned how networks work and a lot of what a workplace should look like. A lot of responsibilities were thrown at me being one of the only student workers however I took it and ran with it, constantly asking questions to understand further how to troubleshoot problems, how to work with customers, and how to keep our workload to a minimum while keeping everything working correctly. My primary responsibilities were maintaining, installing, and creating spreadsheets for camera installs around the campus. I can not show the spreadsheets I have created due to confidential information. Still, for many of the new/renovated buildings, I placed the cameras on the blueprint and provided the MACs with what drops they needed to be installed. I also took many cyber classes and these taught me through virtual machines different ways to perform different actions as if you were an attacker trying to hack someone or even someone trying to stop and figure out attacks. This class IDS 493 is for senior students to show some of what that student may find accomplishing to them. I provided my “artifacts” above this excerpt and all of those are what I am most proud of through my three years at ODU.
