Activity Summary #1

In my internship, I have been able to not only work alongside of but work with incredible nurses, PCTs, and other healthcare workers. I have learned many skills such as better communication and speaking up for patients even when the staff is busy with other tasks. There is a large amount of communication that goes into working on a hospital unit and keep in running smoothly for the staff and the patients. Some of my duties and responsibilities as an intern included keeping track of and ordering orthopedic supplies then putting those supplies away while organizing the ortho closet, being a safety coach for the orthopedic unit that relays back important safety tips and updates to the unit while ensuring they are following these practices, making the calendar that has all the important dates for the unit in that specific month, and so many more. I was also able to gain a lot of knowledge on what it takes and what goes into running a hospital unit. Along with that I have gained new knowledge on how to do certain tasks within a healthcare organization whether that is printing transport paperwork, keeping an orthopedic unit organized, and making physician hospital follow up appointments for the patients being discharged. I am grateful for the skills and knowledge I have had the opportunity of learning this semester and this first half on my internship. I am excited to see what else I will get the chance to experience and learn with the second half of the internship.
