Activity Summary #2

In the second half of this semester in my internship I was able to gain more insight and knowledge in the healthcare workplace. I continued some of the skills and responsibilities I had in the first half of this internship such as ordering supplies for the orthopedic unit and organizing the equipment and supplies. I also scheduled appointments for the discharged patients to follow up with a doctor after they leave the hospital. Another responsibility I have is to check pay time and make sure the hours are accurate and the correct codes are in. Also, a new responsibility I was given by my manager is being a safety coach for our entire unit. As a safety coach, my job is to meet with all the safety coaches from the other units once a month and share stories of any safety concerns or tips we have observed over the last month. Then, we discuss any tips or reminders to bring back to share with our units. We also just found new exciting information that our unit is going to be the only orthopedic unit in the hospital which is a major compliment. There are currently two orthopedic units but administration has decided to only have one so the nurses are used to treating only orthopedic patients as sometimes they get medical/surgery patients with different conditions. I have been very blessed and grateful for the people I work with. The team is full of helpful and caring individuals and I have gotten close with a few who have made this experience more meaningful.
