Span 201

This is where you can find all my work that I accomplished while in the course SPAN 201. I hope you find it informational and enjoy the content!

Reflecting this semester

I have taken Spanish 101 and 102 since starting at Old Dominion University in the fall of 2020. I have became a little comfortable with the language now being in Spanish 201, but still have a little ways to go. I had a different professor for this past semester, and she was easy to talk to especially when help was needed. I ran into a few challenges this semester being I had issues with conjugating verbs into the preterite tense, but with some studying it will become an easy fix! With learning a new language, you have to become dedicated to it and spend more hours towards the studying. This is not something that can be learned over night, but with time and studying, you will start to catch on!

Understanding Culture

Over the course of the semester, we had several assignment where culture was talked about. There was one project we did with a partner where we both chose different countries, and gave information on each one. I enjoyed this project because I got to learn not just about one country, but I got to learn about two. This project was also beneficial for the fact we got to practice speaking Spanish with another classmate. Here is a video of the project we did.

Being able to do a project like this with a classmate helps better prepare you for more alike projects where you have to be able to speak the language!

Interpersonal Communication

Throughout the semester, we had several discussion boards where we had to review what others did and leave comments for them to also review. I felt this was a good activity for us to be able to communicate with one another on different topics for the discussion boards. One of my favorite discussion boards we did this semester was when we were learning about immigration. For the discussion board, we just had to put our thoughts on what the video spoke about. It was a real eye opener and was an informative video. Along with putting what we learned and saw through the video, for the discussion board we had to have at least 2 sentences in Spanish and reply to other peoples posts. Here is my snippet from the discussion board.

Presentational Writing

Throughout the semester there were several times where we had to do some form of writing. In this section I will show two of my favorite writing assignments that we did. The first one you will see, we had to design an outfit for someone. We were given a description of what this person likes and we had to put an outfit together and describe why we felt it suit our person and descriptions on the items. The second assignment you will see we had to write about a historical event that was either in our personal life or a historical event. I chose to do mine on what my life was like when COVID 19 first took place and how I have been since the first outbreak.

Proyecto-11

This writing project was fun because I enjoy fashion so to be able to use those skills in class made the project interesting.

I also enjoyed this second writing project because I was a 2020 high school graduate and got the chance to express and explain how I felt having a pandemic hit during my final days of high school, how that made me feel, and got to show how much I have grown since the pandemic first started.

Presentational Speaking

Over the course of the semester we had a handful of assignments where we were having to speak Spanish to show we were learning and understanding the material. Since I have now take 3 classes at the college level for Spanish, I have become more comfortable when I do speak the language. I find it very helpful with being able to practice pronouncing the words and being able to formulate more sentences. This project you will see was also based on learning culture and was one of my favorite projects with the limitless creation we were able to put into it. For this project we had to create a 3 minute video in which we either plan a fake or real trip in which we participated in ecotourism.

I really enjoyed making this presentations, I feel that this was one of my better presentations in which I did better with pronouncing different words and formulating my sentences.

Overall, this semester was lots of fun. I feel I have became even more comfortable with being able to speak the language. With Spanish not being my first language, I am always learning something new about the language or culture. Knowledge is power and I am excited to continue on my learning journey with Spanish.
