My parallel major if I was to not get into the Nursing Program is the Nuclear Medicine Technology major. I chose this as a parallel major because I think it would be interesting to learn about the different types of using radioactive technologies to diagnose and the other ways, they use radioactive technology in health care. I think a lot of people don’t think about radiological techs and things like that, but I think it is quite interesting. A career that could be interesting with a nuclear medicine degree is a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. What they do is capture images to help diagnose disorders or issues and also can provide radiation to patients that need it. They are like the people that take your X-Rays if you are at any type of doctor’s appointment. They can be on call just like any other health professional and should have a lot of math and science classes heavy on their belt. If I was to pursue this career, I would have to take classes like Fundamental Concepts in Nuclear Medicine Technology, Radiation Health and some other radiological classes. You also need organic chemistry and biochemistry and physics. Those are classes I am not quite fond of, but I can get used to them. Another interesting class you have to take is the Impact of Technology. Since you are working with a lot of technology that could be dangerous if handled wrong, it is important to learn about the importance and the impact it has had on this world. I could talk to people in my doctors offices that are nuclear medicine technologists and ask them what it is like. I could also maybe ask to shadow, but I know because of Covid right now, that might be kind of hard. The advisor for this major is Sara Maynard which is different for nursing; the nursing advisor is Suzanne Van Orden.
