Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational Modes of Communication
Exploring Culture
VHL gave some background knowledge on Spanish language, cultural traditions such as foods, hobbies, sports, and more. Hispanic cultures are known for their cultural traditions. This background knowledge helped me gain an understanding of their cultural perspectives.
Engaging in Communities
I haven’t gotten the experience to engange in the communites.
Interpersonal Communication
Creating emails and discussion boards has made me more comfortable in Spanish speaking. The biggest way discussion boards has expanded my Spanish vocabulary is by comparing and contrasting my forums with my classmates, after reviewing what their responses were I began to understand what I could say in my responses in communication for next time. The difficulty was corrections of my writing.
Presentational Speaking and Writing
Creating short stories and writing compositions made me more comfortable speaking in Spanish with others. The more assignments that was giving by the professor, made me less nervous and more confident. Overall, having confidence in my verbal skills was the most difficult part of interpersonal mode. Eventually, practice and studying made presentational speaking less difficult. I believe presentational speaking and writing was a weakness in Spanish. Next time, I will focus more on my weaknesses whether than my strengths.
Interpretive Listening
Listening and understanding Spanish was difficult in the beginning. I overcame this difficulty by practicing more on comprehension and repeatedly listening to the assignments given and listening to Spanish conversations in public as well. I also began to watch shows/ movies with lots of Spanish speaking. Interpretive Listening was also a weakness in learning a new language. I believe over time this will become a strength.
Interpretive Reading
Interpretive reading wasn’t difficult. It was remembering the vocabulary and content. Grasping all the information could be confusing at times. I overcame this difficulty by studying the information and creating exercises for remembering information. Interpretive reading was the easiest part of learning Spanish.
